MANILA – With no hospitals or urgent care facilities within 15 miles of Manila, Dr. Tommy Wagner has entered into an agreement with St. Bernards to provide after-hours urgent care services office and weekends in Manila, seven days a week.
Wagner said Thursday that the expanded care concept grew out of the western Mississippi County’s central location among hospitals and emergency care, with nothing offered within a 15-mile radius.
Being from Manila, Wagner said he always considered bringing something closer to home.
“I always wanted to do something like this but it became incomprehensible after Covid started,” he said, noting that they had been understaffed since the pandemic started anyway.
“It’s a positive thing in every way,” Wagner said. “I’m really excited about this and know it’s a win-win situation for the community, my staff and all of our patients.”
According to a press release, St. Bernards has entered into an agreement with Wagner to provide uninterrupted care to patients and their families at Wagner Medical Clinic, located at 3364 W Highway 18 in Manila.
“The timing seemed right,” Wagner said. “It felt like it was a great opportunity.”
The soon-to-open expanded care services mark the first such clinic in West Mississippi County.
“It was a quick process,” he said, noting that he’s proud that the partnership is about serving the community.
“St Bernards priorities are in the right place,” he said. “They put patients first.”
The only delay so far has been getting all credentials approved and in order, he said, noting he hopes the after-hours clinic will be up and running by the end of the day. mid-May to the end of May.
Doctors Health Group President John Lieblong of St. Bernards Healthcare said in the statement that Dr. Wagner’s team will continue their practice at the clinic, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., then doctors and St. Bernards providers will occupy the clinic. after hours and on weekends.
“The clinic will operate like our other four urgent care facilities, two in Jonesboro, one in Paragould and one in Kennett, Missouri,” Lieblong said. “Patients can visit us without an appointment for non-emergency injuries and illnesses.”
Wagner said many of his employees have also chosen to help with after-hours staffing by taking a few extra hours themselves.
That means their patients will see some of the same faces, Wagner said, even when they need to see a doctor outside of normal office hours.
“Timely access to care remains important to me, and I want to avoid my patients having to travel for treatment,” he said. I am grateful to Wagner Medical Clinic for playing a part in the solution, and I look forward to an extended partnership with St. Bernards.
Lieblong agreed, saying this deal aligns with St. Bernards’ efforts across its 23-county service area.
“St. Bernards has always prioritized immediate access to care for everyone who needs it,” he said. “Therefore, we greatly appreciate Dr. Wagner and his team.”
“He is a trusted provider in the area, born and raised in the community where he now cares for patients,” Lieblong said. “He has built an incredible practice and facilities. In return, we consider it a privilege to serve this community and expand the strong base of care already established there.
Wagner added that he felt this could not have happened without the support of Lieblong and Chris Barber, CEO of St. Bernards Healthcare, who were instrumental in this process and very supportive, as well as its staff.
